Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We are grateful for so many things, most of all being able to do work we love with the support of great customers like you. I just heard a news piece on the amount of businesses now open on Thanksgiving. Not us! As much the pressure of the Holidays can be stressful, it's a time when things can (and should) quiet, when friends & families can come together and if only for a day be entitled to un-plug from routine & obligations. For us retailers, fast on the heels of Thanksgiving comes Black Friday - in recent years more often a debacle of consumption gone awry. There are good deals to be had sure, but the gratefulness from the day before seems overshadowed. Small Business Saturday on the other hand (while admittedly a creation of American Express) actually is a good thing. While it's encouraging you to go out & spend money, it's more importantly asking you to consider where & how you use your resources - a relevant question in this day & age where most 'things' are only a mouse click away. It's easy enough not to consider the impact your hard earned dollars can have on your community but spending it locally isn't just a tagline - it delivers results. It's how unique & valuable services can exist and thrive where you live - simultaneously making your neighborhood a more interesting & satisfying place to call home. Not to go overboard, but as a small business owner we can tell you first hand - it's meaningful!

New Jewelry

Thursdays tend to be our busiest day of the week here in the studio - it's the day we send all of our orders & new jewelry out to both stores so they'll have things in time for the weekend. I always want to document all the lovely things heading out but, rarely find the time. Below are some quick pics we snapped this week just as a sampling of some of the beautiful creations you'll find in the shop...tomorrow!

Customer Profile : Alexandra & Eirene

*These gorgeous sisters are great people & great customers. They did the Q & A prior to a couple major life events - one having a baby, the other getting married. Below are some lovely pics they shared from the wedding. Our warmest congratulations to them both! Who are you and where do you live? My name is Alexandra and I have lived in Cambridge for the last 2 years. I am a Research Associate and specialize in helping select the best investment managers and strategies for asset allocation portfolios. I moved to Cambridge to attend graduate school and loved it so much, I didn’t want to leave. Having my older sister close-by makes it even better!   What are you up to these days? I am getting married this Fall and am excited to wear two Rebekah Brooks pearl pieces on my special day. My pearl bracelet is from the vine collection and my multi strand necklace was custom made to look like a teardrop pearl necklace in my mother’s jewelry collection. These pieces will be my “something new” for the wedding! What inspires you?  People who have a good attitude and are passionate about learning something new. Vintage or Contemporary? Vintage! My sister and I share the same taste for jewelry, which makes borrowing our Rebekah Brooks pieces from one another very easy. I love how a beautiful vintage piece helps me draw inspiration from the past to incorporate it into my day to day style. I used to watch my mother get prepared for work as a child and I really enjoyed seeing her put on a beautiful piece of jewelry and look polished for the day. I enjoy wearing vintage pieces and family heirlooms that remind me of these memories and inspire me to look and feel elegant each day. How would you define your personal style?  Timeless and elegant. I love jewel tones and am always on the hunt for a good cardigan or feminine blazer. How did you discover Rebekah’s jewelry?  My sister and I grab a cup of tea on weekends to catch up and thank goodness we spotted Rebekah Brooks. We are thrilled to have a jewelry store in town that really gets us and creates timeless pieces. Do you have a favorite piece and why?  Choosing one is difficult. My latest favorite is a gold necklace with scattered pearls.  What keeps you looking good?  A good sense of humor and anything gold!   Who are you and where do you live?  My name is Eirene and I¹ve lived in Cambridge, MA for the last 12 years. I met my husband in graduate school and we never left! I am a financial analyst specializing in biotechnology investments. What are you up to these days? I am about to become a first-time mother (due date Sept 5th) ­ I can expand on this more once the baby arrives! What inspires you?  People who are passionate about adding value to society and work hard to hone a specific skill. Vintage or Contemporary? Definitely vintage. I love unique pieces and family heirlooms with a story. I love imagining who wore the piece before me, and dreaming about passing it down to future generations after I¹ve made my mark. Jewelry can carry such emotional significance. After my father survived a stressful open heart surgery in the '80s, he created a tradition of giving my mother a different gold heart once a year. My sister and I have kept all of those gold hearts and wear them fondly to commemorate their love and how it has shaped us as people. How would you define your personal style? Ladylike and classic. I am not one to follow trends. When I find something that works, I stick with it. I haven¹t changed my haircut in years! I own a million sheath dresses which I love to pair with Rebekah¹s statement necklaces (from the vine collection).  How did you discover Rebekah¹s jewelry? My sister and I happened upon the store on a random Saturday afternoon while strolling through Harvard Square (we are pretty inseparable) We were so excited to finally find a jewelry store with unique pieces reflecting our personal style. Since then, we¹ve purchased many pieces to commemorate important life events. When I safely made it through my first trimester of pregnancy, I purchased a gold necklace of a bud ready to bloom to mark the occasion. My sister is getting married in October and will wear pearl jewelry custom-designed by Rebekah. I am also wearing a long pearl necklace from Rebekah Brooks as maid of honor. Rebekah¹s jewelry has become an important participant in some of our biggest life events. Do you have a favorite piece & why? My husband gave me vintage rose gold and diamond earrings from your store a few days before I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I¹ve worn them ever since. I also love the flower bud necklace I bought myself to mark the completion of my first trimester. What keeps you looking good? Pop Up Shop Boston

We are pleased to be partnering with American Express & The Boston Marriott Long Wharf as part of their "Shop Small' initiative which brings local, small businesses directly to their guests. We were one of 8 hand selected businesses from the greater Boston area to participate. Proud to be a part of it & worth checking alone to discover all the other cool stores involved. September Wedding

Hard to imagine a more picturesque scene than a newlywed's stroll across the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne, Mass. This lovely couple was married in September & the bride was generous enough to provide this note along with the pictures : ' We purchased my engagement ring in your Noho store (the blue topaz in antique setting) in August 2013 (I had my eye on it for months before), and we also purchased the dot ring for my wedding band.  I wore a pair of your pearls on the big day as well.  I love your jewelry!'. We are honored! Big thanks to them both for letting us share this.
